Lionel Messi produced yet another sublime display as Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to eleven points thanks to a 2-1 win against Angers.
Kylian Mbappe netted twice for the Parisians, but it was Messi who made history for himself after grabbing his 15th assist of the season when he set up the Frenchman’s second goal.
According to PSG Talk, Messi joined Eden Hazard and PSG teammate Mbappe as the only players since the 2006-07 season to record 15 or more goals and 15 or more assists in one Ligue 1 campaign.
Hazard accomplished this feat in the 2011-12 season, scoring 20 goals and 16 assists, while Mbappe did so in the 2021-22 season, scoring 28 goals and 17 assists.
Messi despite his PSG still in doubt looks on course to win his second Ligue 1 title as PSG are now on 75 points, 11 points ahead of closest challengers Marseille with six matches to go.
